Established in Richmond in 2018, with a vision to build a beautifully unique space that is challenging the idea of the stereotypical Melbourne tattoo studio.
With an unwavering focus on customer service and professionalism, The Dark Essence Tattoo Gallery is like no other tattoo studio in Melbourne. Creating a fun and friendly atmosphere, it offers an amazing experience for first-timers and regular clients alike.
The space is inspired by an unworldly, gothic and luxurious feel which is emphasised by quality, bespoke and antique pieces. Designed and detailed by owners Joe Metrix and Loretta Perry to be inspiring, creative and most importantly, hygienic.
The studio hosts up to 12 artists at one time, with guest artists welcomed from around the globe on a monthly basis. Our team of artists acquire skills in a variety of styles and will always work hard to capture and portray a wide rage of elegance and character in each piece.
The Dark Essence Tattoo Gallery is also home to Australia’s leading tattoo needle supply company Metrix Tattoo. Therefore, our artists are always at the cutting edge of new technology in the tattoo industry, ensuring only the best possible products are used for every client.
